I and I is nearing completion on a new record and now we have the first real evidence of that effort. It’s a single edit of one of the album’s best tracks “The Hardest Part” backed by two remixes and an extra called “Pocahontas”. “The Hardest Part” starts with a lo-fi wistful piano and builds into a space disco anthem on distance, visions/dreams and the departed. We feel it is one of I and I’s best and most compelling songs to date!
The remixes are provided by our own chilled out beatsmith Atlantic At Pacific who turns out a suitably spacey voyage propelled by his trademark breaks. The other remix is provided by the Italo Disco aesthete Nassau who brings his edit expertise to the effort and the resulting 808′s and new wave synths are a triumph. The last track was originally intended for a compilation known as “The Color School Project” which is a collection of songs about famous, gifted or historically significant children. I and I’s take on Pocahontas is bound to be the first time any one has approached the subject armed with cheap synths and distorted beats. It’s closest relative (at least in terms of concept) would perhaps be OMD‘s great “Joan of Arc” and “Maid of Orleans” songs.
The mini part of the equation is that it will be out on a limited edition 3″ mini CD with a gate fold wallet sleeve. A cassette with a couple of variations will also be available and a digital version at all the usual places.
Here’s the artwork and track listing:
