New One In A Googolplex LP ‘Win Win’ out Sept. 6!!

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Last year Sebastian Zimmer of One In A Googolplex dropped his excellent 3rd LP ‘The Dropout Cats‘ and then shortly thereafter he gave us an equally excellent single ‘Lilly‘. Now on September 6th OIAG is set to deliver their (now expanded to a full band) 4th awesome long player titled ‘Win Win’ which delivers handsomely on the promise of ‘Lilly’! Sebastian again pulls off the feat of making a modern pop album full of endearingly heartfelt and humble songs that span a range of sonic terrain but maintain the consistent OIAG vibe we have come to love. With the additions of the voice of Lisa Weigel, percussion by David Fernández del Campo and guitar by Manfred Rump new elements have made their way into Sebastian’s world with much welcomed results. Of course the songs from the single ‘Lilly’ and ‘My Sister’s Poems’ are great but their are lot’s of new gems on this to sink your teeth into. ‘Make My Cat Happy’ and ‘You Were a Mess When You Were Seventeen’ are more electro pop jammers in the vein of ‘Lilly’ but there are also lot’s of good introspective melodic numbers like ‘Watermelon’, ‘Tiger Lion Bear’, and ‘Fiddlesticks’. With ‘Win Win’ One In A Googolplex have continued their trend of making outstanding alt. pop records that make you think, feel and not be afraid or too cool to feel positive.
‘Win Win’ will be out September 6th on limited CD and digital. Here’s the tracklist and the cute cover (you might recognize the kid?) is above. If you missed it, listen and download lead single ‘Lilly’.

In case you’ve missed it there’s much good reading material on the interwebs that support the case for why not to miss this one (see p4k’s full review). Pickup a tape (7$) and stream and download the whole thing here. In addition to the tape you can head over to the Arrange bandcamp to snag the limited vinyl.

Eric Sarmiento ‘The Friend is This Animal’ out August 16th!

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

We are tickled to death to announce the release of Eric’s awesome new record ‘The Friend Is This Animal’ on July 26th! Prepare yourself for this one now because it’s a beast of gargantuan proportions. From the beat driven, melodic rush of tracks like So She Says, Alejandra, and Strange Power to the deep and unearthly beauty of songs like Husbands and Wives, Awake, Dust and We Waited For Nothing, this album is something new, fresh and strikingly original. It touches upon the complexity of jazz or classical, while retaining the appeal and dressed in the garments of pop, electronics, R+B and rock and roll. Eric’s lyrics are similarly unique in their ability to express complex subjects, feelings, relationships and ideas in a way that is immediate but yields increasing depth over many repeat listens. Overall it seems to be something of a commentary on the state of the world here in the 21st century as seen through the eyes of the relationships between individuals and extending out from there to all things. It’s also kind of like a map telling you You Are Here.
Stay tuned for more details and goodies as we draw closer to the release. As usual it will be available in both limited edition cd (10$) and a c40 cassette (7$) as well as digitally. Here is the cover art and the track listing.

Alchemist to release Arrange’s debut ‘Plantation’ on tape

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

We are happy to announce that we’ll be releasing a c30 cassette of the excellent debut lp ‘Plantation’ from ambient R&B artist Arrange! Arrange is the work of one Malcom Lacey of Florida who’s been quietly dishing out free releases for a bit. You needn’t look far to find many accolades being showered on this new album including Pitchfork’s review of track ‘When’d You Find Me ?’ which they describe as “Patient and quietly stunning”. Much of it is patient and evolving but there’s also plenty of R&B jammers in there and some nice voice and piano led pieces too. It’s a remarkably confident and well designed debut from a new talent full of promise.
Good new music like this deserves to be heard on the warm and pleasing analog greatness of cassette. As usual this one is pro dubbed on hi bias chrome tapes. The artwork was handled by awesome collage maestro Jesse Treece.
The tape drops on July 12th for 7$ you can pre order and stream the whole thing here.

Alchemist Video Series1: Eric Sarmiento

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Our next installment in the Alchemist Video Series1 is from Eric Sarmiento. He’s debuting a new track called ‘Awake’ from his weighty and brilliant next record ‘The Friend is This Animal’ which is coming soon. This intimate performance peels back some of the layers of the album version to reveal the jewel inside in skeletal form. In addition to this track he’s got a cool version of ‘Strange Power’ (which will incidentally also be on the new record) here. Enjoy.
