We have been away from Alchemist for a while but it seems like the ever industrious and prolific Austin Lee Wood keeps bringing us back to life. He has a new free single to check out and it showcases his ability to continue to evolve and perfect his musical journey’s offspring. It’s fun to hear him assume more of the front man position in his own compositions and to come into his own as a vocalist and songwriter. Austin describes the song thusly “Close My Eyes is about human insecurities, imposed by courtships with one I have immense emotional constructs toward.
A way of transcending said tenebrous emotions is by opening ones eyes to the temporaries that life is. And by embracing all uncertainties encountered throughout ones explorations. I strive to bring comfort to those existing with said challenges. In hopes they too can overlook the discomfort & vulnerability that comes with love.” The song is a single from his second solo ep entitled “MOON MILK” scheduled for release in fall of 2013. Close your eyes and enjoy.

We’ve got a treat for you today in the form of Austin Lee Wood’s (formerly Atlantic At Pacific mastermind) new single Archetypal Feeling (II)! It’s a very heartfelt and soulful kind of jam that can only be achieved by working so long on a track that your ears begin to bleed. Austin’s friends have called his new sound “Fake Rock/Midi Rock”, we think it would fit nicely on a playlist of Japan’s “Tin Drum”, MBV’s “Loveless” and Bowie “Low” but as with all Alchemist releases the sound is quite unique and hard to pigeonhole. Enjoy this track for free below and scope the dark art. A 4 song EP including this track will be out next week. More on that later.

Here’s some belated photos of the Faustian Ethics mini cd and a free track to pique your interest. The track is actually two tracks merged into one, “It Sucks/Fever” and it highlights what is unique about this record. It is at times reminiscent of a good old rock n roll tune (a la Bowie or The Band) but it has enough of a modern edge and many twists and turns that breath new life into the somewhat lost art. The mini cd is 8$ plus shipping and comes in a gatefold case designed and assembled by yours truly, and if physical objects aren’t your thing you can also download the album at your digital outlet of choice.

We are pleased to announce that Gomez, Earl, and Brandon, formerly of Illus Ocean have a new album: Faustian Ethics and a new name: Incredibly Strange Creatures. Picking up where the Illus Ocean debut (Meskin In The Attic) left off, they maintain the ability to make what is essentially an album that calls to mind the bold sense of adventure, musicianship and actual songwriting that characterized much of the best of albums from the 70′s and in so doing make something that sounds very fresh and new. With elements of Jazz, Ragtime and Honky Tonk infusing Rock songs with the feel of a carnival barker, a marching band and a tack piano maestro, you’re not likely to hear much else this summer that sounds like this. The Ft. Worth based band manage to make exploring the compromises we all make in our own Faustian dealings through the lens of relationships gone amok, deranged people, damaged people and words from the devil himself, sound entertaining.
Faustian Ethics will be out September 11 on mini cd and digital formats. We’ll have a free sample and more details in the coming weeks. For now here’s the cover and track listing:
2. Devil Made Me Do It
3. Leslie Lynn
5. Lost On Toodle Oo
6. Sick Little Girl
7. It Sucks
